Budge Schachte - Guitarist, Composer, Producer, Teacher - Since moving to Vancouver in 1983 Budge has worked with a diverse array of artists and groups; Tango Paradiso, Victoria Symphony, Vancouver Island Symphony, Coco Trevisano (Forever Tango), Joe Trio, Gypsalero, Olam, Leon Bibb, Blue Indigo with Ruth Böggild, Jesse Zubot, Sal Ferreris, Miles Black, Pepe Danza, Karen Plato, Saul Berson, Kenny Coleman, Karen Graves, Brad Turner, Alma Libra, John Reischman, Sandy Scofield, Keith Bennet, Bob Carpenter, Valdy, Daryl Jahnke, Jack Duncan, Ache Brazil, Terry Frewer, Coco Love Alcorn, Lyndsay Davis.  International Stars; Manalyn Reynes, Lannie Mercado, Ricard Duo, Long John Baldry.  He has shared the stage with; Khaled (with Gypsalero), Jesse Cooke (with Tango Paradiso), Mark Murphy (Tango Paradiso) and many others...

In 1990 Budge was singled out as a "player... deserving of wider recognition" - Downbeat...
And with Tango Paradiso in 1999 - "Fine original compositions" - Downbeat.  ' The Budge Schachte Group played Budge's original compositions from 1987 till 1996 in many music festivals including a spot every year in the Vancouver International Jazz Festival.

More recently Budge has been exploring Tango with the acclaimed group; Tango Paradiso, who in 2002 were nominated for a West Coast Music Award. They have a Bravo music video released in November 2002 which  features Dancer, Acacia Schachte. (who is a full time member of Ballet BC and is also his daughter).

The Budge Schachte Quartet, Van Django, Ache Brazil, Is Not Was (featuring; Ike Stubbelfield), Sandy Scofield and many others....

Some of the guitarists he has studied with include; Mike Stern (Miles Davis, Michael Brecker), Ted Quinlan, Clark Staebner (Segovia master classes) and John Stowell (David Freisen, Paul Horn). He studied music analysis with Dr. Harold Krebs at UBC as well as private Master Classes with Tango greats, Nestor Marconi and Daniel Binelli. He attended the Capilano College Music Program in 1978.
Most importantly, Budge has had the joy and privilege of learning and mentoring from all the wonderful and unique musicians he has played with over the years.

Budge composes, arranges and plays music in most genres and can be heard on numerous documentaries, short films and  CD's including; Tango Paradiso, Ache Brazil, Leora Cashe's 'Inspiration' and Sarah Marshall's 'all The Dreamers' as well as in Symphonic arrangements of original pieces for Tango Paradiso.

He recently played on the feature film soundtracks; 'Head In The Clouds' starring Penelope Cruz and Charlize Therone and 'Eulogy' starring Ray Romano, Debra Winger and Rip Torn.

Currently he co-leads a Gypsy Jazz group with the eclectic violinist Cam Wilson, called 'Van Django' who have recorded 2 live CBC radio shows for 'Hot Air' and Westcoast Performance. He also plays duets with Cam in concert and in 2001 played in the Show 'Green Eggs and Cam' featuring Cams music with Chamber Orchestra, at the VECC.

As a Player a partial discography includes ; Tango Paradiso, Olam, Gypsalero 'El Runaway', Ache Brazil 'Ecos Do Mengue', Katrina Bishop ' Runaway Lane', Sarah Marshall 'All The Dreamers' , Leora Cashe 'Inspiration', Pure Velour vol. 1 & 2.

As a Producer CDs include; Sarah Marshall 'All The Dreamers' which has a song in the feature film 'Moving Malcolm' and also had the most requested song of 2003 on the CBC show 'Richardson's Roundup', Tango Paradiso, James Wong 'Joi Poi'...

As a Teacher/ Mentor Budge has a passionate and original approach, creating unique learning strategies with influences from such diverse fields as; Linguistics, Mathematics, Chaos/Complexity, Mimetics, Cognitive Science, Acoustics, AI/AL, Biology, Traditional and Contemporary Music Theory.

He has taught and mentored privately and in music studios for over 30 years, including 'Virtual High' an award winning High School Program. Currently Budge is writing a music book/computer program on improvisation and composition.

Highlights for 2002/2003/2004 include performances in the Montreal Jazz Festival. Three performances with Tango Paradiso and the Victoria Symphony Orchestra, Concerts with Tango Paradiso and the Vancouver Island Symphony Orchestra, Sound Design for  'Ernestine Shuswap Gets Her Trout' by well known Canadian Play-write and Novelist Tomson Highway.  Performances in the Vancouver Jazz Festival with Tango Paradiso and Van Django. A CD  recording with Leore Cashe. And last but not least Producing Sarah Marshall's first CD 'All The Dreamers'.
